Pug-themed gifts unwrapped at Long Barn
Walter & Florence have made their retail debut at Long Barn, a unique home & garden store, cafe and lavender farm in the pretty market town of Alresford. Our 1950s-inspired pug-themed gifts are just the thing for adding a touch of pug chic to the home.
Choose from two product collections: ‘Lazy days’ and ‘Playtime’. The gifts in our ‘Lazy days’ collection shows pugs relaxing with their paws up. Our ‘Playtime’ collection delights in the playful, rascally antics of pugs.
There are fine bone china mugs with cotton tea towels to match and greetings cards and notelets printed on a lovely, textured paper for that vintage feel.
Pug-themed gifts and more
We find it a struggle to visit Long Barn and go home empty-handed. Everything’s so tempting. They go out of their way to source products that aren’t widely available in other shops, so you know you’re buying something special. There are gifts for home and garden, clothing, jewellery, beauty products, tasty nibbles and more – all carefully curated and displayed in a beautiful building.
One other big draw for us, of course, is that Long Barn is dog-friendly. Now and again, you’ll spot our pugs-in-chief there, browsing in the shop or enjoying Sunday brunch.
And for dog lovers there are some enticing doggy-themed products for both hounds and humans, including – ahem – pug-themed gifts from the Walter & Florence collection.
The story behind Long Barn
We do love it when there’s a story to tell and Long Barn’s is a good one. They’re on an historic site which, since Medieval times, was used to pen herds of sheep for the Alresford Sheep Fair.
Today, the very same land is used to grow Long Barn’s English lavender, creating a beautiful view from the café’s outdoor terrace and the garden shop.
And, as lavender growers and distillers, it’s rather nice to think that Long Barn is continuing a heritage of farming that’s almost forgotten in this country.
Walter & Florence: a tale of two pugs
At Walter & Florence, we also have a story to tell. We’ve combined our three passions: pugs; stylish products for the home; and 1950s chic. We put a lot of thought into our gift collections, which are all designed and made in England.
Our inspiration comes from our own two pugs, which the business is named after, and the elegance of the 1950s. We’re huge Audrey Hepburn fans and wanted to capture the chic we all associate with her vintage style. So, we based our illustrations on fashion sketches of the era, with their hand-drawn pen strokes and watercolour wash.
We’re very proud of our British brand and our aim is to bring something exclusive to dog lovers. So, for pug-themed gifts, inspired by pugs born and bred in Hampshire, head for Long Barn, near Winchester.
If you spy two pugs running around and looking like they own the place, they may just be Walter and Florence.
